"THE MILITIA ACT OF 1808"

The militia act of 1808 called for every male between the ages of 16 to 60 years to enrol in the company within which division he lived.
On the first training day, June 4th of every year, (King George's Birthday) that was called after his coming of age or after moving within the company limits.

The Militia was mostly expected to serve within their province for a term of 6 months.

THE REGIMENT

Captain James Kerby's corps was active from July 1812 until March 1813, serving from Fort Erie to the emplacements at Chippawa and Queenston.

The unit fought in many of the early engagements such as the capture of Detroit and Queenston Heights.  Later as the unit was disbanded with the advent of the Provincial Artillery Company, some "re upped" with the new company and saw action at Fort George, Chippawa, Lundy's Lane and Fort Erie.
